“Now, a couple things about the muster. Okay, this is different. Okay? This isn’t a feel-good seminar to pump you up. That is not what’s happening at the muster. If you want that, don’t come.

I’m not saying you won’t be pumped up, I’m not saying you won’t be motivated, but don’t come if that’s what you’re looking for. There’s not going to be any chanting. Okay?

There’s not going to be any communal promises and that kind of stuff. That’s not happening there. You’re not going to fill out a dream board. Okay? That’s not happening. Don’t come to the muster if that’s what you want.

That’s not what the muster is. This is practical tactics, tactics and strategies. Practical things that will help you lead your team and will help you lead yourself. So, if that’s what you want, then come to the muster.”

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING

Leadership is the most important thing on the battlefield. While equipment, weaponry, intelligence, tactics, and strategy play a role, leadership is the single greatest factor in determining whether a team succeeds or fails.

When we talk about leaders, we are not only talking about senior leaders. We are not only talking about leaders in charge of 5,000 or 500 people. We are not only talking about leaders that are in charge of 50 people or 5. We are talking about everyone—everyone is a leader—even the front-line worker who takes ownership of their part of the mission and executes.

It was leadership at every level that brought victory in the Battle of Ramadi, and it is leadership at every level that brings success to any company or team. So, when we talk about leaders, no matter where you are in the hierarchy of your organization, we are talking about YOU.

Without leadership, nothing happens, and with bad leadership, the wrong things happen. Victory cannot be achieved without leadership, which is why we say leadership is the most important thing on the battlefield, the most important thing in business, and the most important thing in life.
